Seasonal Poetry

This week we wrote seasonal free verse poem. They are titled, "I Know It's Spring When..." Each line in the poem should be unique events or occurrences that happen in the specific season.

Here is an example of a poem one of my students wrote:

I Know It’s Spring When…

Greenish-brown tadpoles dart inside murky ponds
Fluffy lambs frolic across meadows
Rocking eggs hatch before our eyes
Colorful flowers bloom in gardens
Sparking rainbows spread across the sky
Soft rain falls gently to the earth

I laminated a horizontal colored-coded sheet with four sections to display all word choices. It is divided into the following color-coded sections:

Yellow = adjectives
Red = nouns
Blue = verbs
Green = adverb and prepositional phrases
